FSCS SCV animations

Background

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) is the UK’s compensation fund of last resort for customers of firms authorised by the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

FSCS is required to pay out compensation within 15 business days of the default of a deposit taker. A key element in meeting this obligation is the requirement on deposit takers to be able to provide a single customer view (SCV) to FSCS within 24 hours.

Brief

Design and produce a series of short information videos to help deposit takers avoid common errors that FSCS have found when checking SCV files.

The primary audience of 'time poor' financial professionals and assurance analysts needed an overview of the SCV requirements, plus a demonstration of how to complete a return – essentially the ‘why’ and the ‘what’, but not necessarily the ‘how’.

Solution

The subject matter is quite dry, so it was important for the design to bring the subject to life through animation and annotated screen recordings.

An initial script was developed, then edited down into separate topics for each animation, which were then storyboarded for review and approval.

Using screen capture software and dummy data, we recorded a series of 12 scenarios, whilst a voiceover for each topic was re-recorded on an iPhone.

Editing in post-production tightened up the recording and added transitions, zooms, screen animations, text narrative and end frames.
